Ask an Iranian set out to challenge misconceptions about Iran through humour, curiosity and honest conversation. As Co-founder, Creative Director and Host, I developed the brand, content strategy and promotional platform that helped grow it into Iran's leading English-language podcast, creating an engaged international community around a difficult subject.
People rarely change their minds because they're corrected. They change because they're curious.
Much of the international conversation around Iran was shaped by headlines, politics and stereotypes, leaving little room for ordinary perspectives. The challenge wasn't simply to launch another podcast—it was to create a brand people would willingly spend time with, making unfamiliar conversations feel entertaining before they became educational.

Rather than positioning the podcast as an authority, we positioned it as a conversation. Humour, self-awareness and visual simplicity lowered barriers to engagement, while a distinctive identity created consistency across episodes, merchandise, social content and community touchpoints. The brand encouraged audiences to explore Iranian culture with curiosity rather than preconception, making difficult subjects feel approachable without oversimplifying them.

The podcast gave international audiences a more personal and nuanced perspective on Iranian life through conversations that felt accessible rather than confrontational.
A consistent brand identity extended beyond audio into merchandise, social media and audience participation, strengthening recognition across multiple platforms.
The platform grew into Iran's leading English-language podcast, demonstrating demand for authentic cultural storytelling presented with humour and honesty.
David found the perfect balance of style and satire, turning a quirky idea into a viral hit with real sales impact.
